The environmental policy of the University of Graz
The University of Graz considers it its mission to preserve our environment for future generations. One key aspect of this responsibility is the topic of sustainability. We address subjects considering ecological, economic, and social sustainability in research, teaching, and university management. This is accomplished by concrete objectives and projects to ensure the continuous improvement of our environmental performance, avoid environmental impacts and reach true climate neutrality by the year 2040. Furthermore, we are committed to complying with environmental requirements, binding obligations and the following points:
Research and Teaching
- Commitment to ecological, economical, and social sustainability in the university’s focus areas and in research networks as well as in the study and teaching programs
- Promotion of university projects and initiatives which relate to the environment
Sustainable Action
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
- Sensible use of resources such as energy, water and materials
- Increasing the use of renewable energy sources
- Reduction of the environmental impact of construction in consideration of the technical and economical possibilities as well as of the life cycle
- Alignment of our procurement to meet social and ecological criteria
- Reduction of waste volume and separation of generated waste
- Promotion of sustainable mobility
- Promotion of biodiversity
- Promotion of sustainable events
- Implementation of awareness-raising measures
Communication and Cooperation
- Active inclusion of all university stakeholders in the sustainability processes
- Informing university stakeholders and training staff to raise awareness in the areas of environmental protection and sustainability
- Co-operation and networking with other universities on sustainability topics
